Mesembryanthemum, commonly known as the trailing ice plant, is a succulent plant native to South Africa. It's a low-growing, mat-forming plant that is often used as ground cover. The plant has small, fleshy, green leaves that are covered in tiny, glistening hairs, giving it an icy appearance, hence the name.
The trailing ice plant produces a profusion of small, daisy-like flowers that bloom in shades of pink, purple, or magenta. These flowers typically appear in the spring and summer months, adding a splash of color to the landscape. Mesembryanthemum is relatively easy to care for, thriving in well-draining soil and full sun.
This plant is drought-tolerant once established, making it a popular choice for xeriscaping and low-maintenance gardens. Its ability to spread quickly and its attractive appearance make it a valuable addition to various garden settings.
