Cerinthe major | Honeywort
We think self-seeding plants are a gift to the garden and we just love this one!
Cerinthe major or as it is commonly known Honeywort or Pride of Gibraltar is actually a native of the Greek Islands. The striking feature is the beautiful indigo violet bells rimmed in white that dangle gracefully from bronzy blue bracts that stand above the attractive grey-green leaves.
A standout plant for the summer garden, the nectar-laden flowers are an absolute bee magnet. We use these a lot in our cut flower garden and love the fact that they easily self sow. Looks stunning planted with yellow flowers as you can see in the background of one of our photos as the dark flowers really pop! If using for cutting be sure to remove the leaves from the stems to ensure that the water stays fresher longer.
Easy care, full sun in a well-drained position.
